Vintage decor guide
How to Choose Vintage Lighting
A guide to vintage table lamps, brass lamps, sconces, shades, scale, wiring, and warm room light.
Start here
Vintage lighting changes a room quickly, but scale, shade condition, and wiring matter as much as style.
Check scale first
Measure the table, nightstand, or wall before falling for a lamp. A beautiful base can still be too tall, too wide, or visually heavy.
Inspect shade and wiring
Look for shade stains, dents, missing hardware, socket notes, and rewiring details. Budget for a new shade if the base is strong.
Use warm pools of light
Vintage rooms look better with layered table lamps and sconces than one bright overhead light.
